I have returned after a several-month hiatus. At first this seems like one of the worst possible times to return to blogging: I'm barely keeping up with the weekly routine of running, classes, research, and cooking. On top of that, I am eagerly accepting any opportunity to make a website, write a newsletter, or pursue some other side project. After more thought, I realize that being too focused on lab was the one, central thing that I wish I had done differently in Singapore. I could have had so many more incredible experiences (and made a lot of money) by being a science communication tutor to junior college students. So, although I love my classes and can't stop talking about my work with biofilms, I am letting myself pursue these other avenues with equal enthusiasm. It's exciting not to know whether I'll end up being a professor in a university, a science consultant in a restaurant, a traveling science communication consultant, some combination of these, or something completely different.
